Lamborghini Zagato Looks like hybrid of Ferrari and Lotus. This, discerning ladies and gentlemen, is a one-off Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 rebodied by Italian coachbuilder Zagato, and unveiled at last weekend's Villa d'Este event. We'll give you a moment.
It's called the Lamborghini 5-95, and the ‘why' is easy: Zagato celebrates its 95th anniversary this year, and wanted to hook up with Lamborghini and turn Sant'Agata's best selling model in history - that's the Gallardo - into a true collectors car.
So step forward our collector, a Mr Albert Spiess. Spiess owns several one-offs and Lambo firsts, as well as things like the Alfa Romeo S.Z and R.Z, the 1985 Aston V8 Zagato and the 2012 V12 Zagato. He wanted a new thing to add to his toybox, and what better than a one-off, Zag-bodied Gallardo?
Mechanically the 5-95 is pure LP570-4, which means a 5.2-litre V10 producing 570bhp, 397lb ft of torque, permanent four-wheel-drive, a 0-62mph time of 3.4 seconds and vmax of 202mph. So that's the speed sorted.
The body, meanwhile, is said to express Zagato's philosophy of ‘functionalism and rationalism', and gives it typical values of an ‘instant classic'. We'll let you make up your own mind, but it's certainly a striking bit of design. Only shades of the Gallardo remain; the mouth is more open, the whole thing hunches forward and the rear has been totally remodelled. There's even a roof scoop.
Mr Spiess is pleased, anyway. "I always appreciated the ability of Zagato to create timeless lines with a forceful visual impact. The 5-95 will be a fundamental piece of my collection."
